Legacy Builders,
In the true spirit of perseverance, we bring you the incredible transformation story of Artie Esquivel, a man who turned his life around from battling alcohol addiction to conquering a monumental fitness goal—a half marathon.
Artie's journey begins with a heartfelt reflection on his year of sobriety. He courageously opens up about the struggles he faced, masked behind the facade of being the life of the party. Artie shares, "I always felt like I had to be the life of the party and the crazy fun guy at the bar, but in reality, alcohol was destroying my life."
It took a life-altering moment, in 02/10/2019, to serve as a wake-up call. Standing at the crossroads of his life, Artie decided it was time for a change. Reflecting on that pivotal day, he recalls, "It was a miracle, a sign from God that enough was enough."
Turning to his friend and trainer, Rudy, Artie embarked on a fitness journey that initially aimed to win back his girl but evolved into a transformative pursuit for his own well-being. Artie shares, "Originally, I did it to try to get my girl back, but now I am doing it for me."
Through the highs and lows, Artie found solace in the gym, reshaping not only his physique but also his mindset. His dedication led to a remarkable one-year milestone of sobriety, mending relationships with family, rediscovering professional success, and prioritizing his health.
Fast forward to the present, and Artie achieves a feat once deemed impossible during his darker days. Posting triumphantly after completing a half marathon, he celebrates the victory of going 13.1 miles—a testament to the incredible turnaround in his life. Artie acknowledges the unwavering support of his family and friends, saying, "My parents and brother and sister always had my back! My cousin Gus, who trained and ran it with me! My boy, Johnny @cheffreshbox, who helped me with my meals. My chiropractor, Joe Gonzalez, who got me squared away. Friends and family that showed up to make sure I crossed…and my boy/trainer/brother Rudy @rudy_buildlegacy who always pushed me to complete this even when I didn’t believe I could…we did it."
In a touching tribute to his past struggles, Artie reflects on the transformation he underwent. From being unable to walk 30 yards without dizziness due to alcohol's grip, he now crosses the finish line of a half marathon—a symbolic triumph over his past self. Artie shares, "When I use to drink towards the end, I couldn't walk 30yds without getting dizzy, so I told myself if I could stop drinking, I wanted to go 13.1 miles, and we finally made it happen!"
Artie's story serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for anyone facing their own battles. His journey is proof that with determination, a strong support system, and the right mindset, one can overcome adversity and achieve remarkable feats.
